MHT News Editor Rodney Brown blogs: An article today in an online offshoot of Fast Company states that Richard Saul Wurman "reinvented the standard business conference model" when he created the TED Conference in 1984. Not only is this incorrect hyperbole, it is an example of the worst kind of toadyism that is rampant in the specific part of the tech world focused on design.

Advisor Paul Gillin: Thanks to WiFi, tablets and smart phones, people can go to meetings and immerse themselves in e-mail, Facebook and whatever else strikes their online fancy. Conference organizers and speakers hate this, but how far should they be permitted to go to stop it?

Massachusetts aims to host largest biotech convention in 2012
The venue for this year’s annual Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) convention, ending today, may have been the nation's capital, but the Massachusetts delegation to the show, anchored by Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, loudly drummed its "Road to Revolution" theme to attract attendees to next year's show in Boston, to be held June 18-21, 2012.

Startups thirsty for connections at RubyRiot
MHT Reporter Galen Moore blogs: Matt Lauzon has a little problem. RubyRiot – the startup industry event he started – has grown to an overflow capacity of about 700 partygoers. It looks like when RubyRiot kicks off tonight at 7 p.m., the Boston startup scene will have its first club scene, with a line outside the door and all.

PAX sees growth in move to new Boston event space
New England nerds should know that Robert Khoo, president of Penny Arcade Inc. and show director for PAX East, says that in just its second year, the upcoming PAX East 2011 will be bigger than the main PAX show in Seattle. To handle the expected larger size this year, Khoo and the team tripled the exhibit hall space.
