    Acumentrics takes another $2.5M for fuel cells
    Westwood-based fuel cell developer Acumentrics Holding Corp. has reported selling $2 million in equity, options and warrants as part of a $2.5 million second funding round, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

    Stealthy fuel cell startup Encite raises $650K
    Stealthy Burlington-based Encite LLC has raised $650,000 out of a planned $1 million equity round. The company, per an earlier patent filing, is working on a method of forming a fuel cell on a substrate, and then forming electronics on the substrate.

    KSE, Giner Electrochemical awarded $4.5M DOE funding
    Two Massachusetts companies that work on technologies related to biofuels and fuel cells – KSE Inc. and Giner Electrochemical Systems Inc. – have received a total of $4.5 million in a round of small business research funding from the U.S. Department of Energy.

    University of Massachusetts Amherst polymer scientist and associate professor Bryan Coughlin is collaborating with scientists from other universities as part of a five-year, $7.5 million study funded by the U.S. Army Research Office to reduce the weight and the environmental impact of battery packs carried by armed forces.

    Fuel cell developer Trenergi Corp. has raised more than half of a seed round of $1 million in debt. The startup is aiming to develop fuel cells that would generate electricity for residences while producing heat and hot water as a free byproduct.

    Protonex fuel cell deal to net up to $6.4M
    Marlborough-based fuel cell firm Protonex Technology Corp. has landed a contract from the U.S. Army CECOM worth $1.85 million for the development and supply of advanced portable battery charger/auxiliary power units (APU) fuel cell systems. The contract could increase to $6.4 million if three option phases are awarded.

    A new local player in the fuel cell market is looking to make a splash in the physical and homeland security markets, a growing area of interest among the emerging industry. Sirius Integrator Inc. of Devens is not selling its own technology, however.
