MTI hands out grants to build tech clusters

CashStar Inc. has landed $5 million from existing investors and added another major retailer, Home Depot Inc. as the latest buyer of the startup’s online gift card technology.

HubSpot hauls in $16M in Series C
Search engine marketing company HubSpot Inc. of Cambridge has closed on $16 million in its third round of venture funding, according to a blog post by company CEO and co-founder Brian Halligan. The round was led by Scale Ventures of California and saw all previous investors return, including Matrix Partners and General Catalyst Partners.

TipJoy Inc. has shut its doors, co-founder Ivan Kirigin reported in a blog post late last night. Funded by Paul Graham’s startup incubator, Y Combinator, in 2008, TipJoy aimed to provide a social online micropayment system that could be used to make blog content profitable.
