The Dimock Center helps Boston’s residents—and many tech citizenship firms help the center

If there is a single entity that best encompasses the gamut of corporate giving that Mass High Tech has honored for the past 10 years, it just might be The Dimock Center.

The Dimock Center is a multipurpose community institution that serves the Boston neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain and Roslindale. In that one operation can be found a health center, a community care center, a child-and-family development center and an adult-education center.

With all of those community-focused programs under one roof, it is no wonder that the nonprofit gets support from more than a half-dozen of this year’s Tech Citizenship honorees. That list encompasses Boston Scientific Corp., Cisco Systems Inc., Comcast Corp., Genzyme Corp., Microsoft Corp., Raytheon Co. and Verizon Communications Inc.

“The Dimock Center has been fortunate to receive ongoing support from terrific partners within the Massachusetts technology community,” said Ruth Ellen Fitch, president and CEO of the center.

Just one example of that kind of support came last fall when Microsoft gave a $503,000 software grant to the center for its information technology infrastructure. Other technology firms have given funding, other in-kind donations and volunteer time.

“Their assistance has benefited our entire organization and has been critical to programs like our after-school programs and adult basic-education classes, allowing us to provide students with computers skills workshops and access to quality equipment,” Fitch said.

While The Dimock Center gets help from the seven honorees listed above, the other 17 companies recognized this year all have made a similar level of commitment to their own respective charities. We feature those companies and relationships in the pages that follow.
