24 Tech Companies That Give Back to the Community

Raytheon Co.

Kristin Hilf Hilf

Raytheon Co. is as committed to the defense of our children’s education as it is to the defense of our nation, officials say. The Waltham-based defense and aerospace giant says it understands that it must engage students when they are young, support them during their critical middle school years, and continue to build on that support throughout their academic lives.

To do that, Raytheon has reworked its popular MathMovesU Scholarship Program to make a greater impact and to invest more directly in students committed to studying STEM. Under the new framework, a pool of $150,000 has been set aside to provide 150 middle school students with $1,000 each. Recipients will have the option of attending math and science summer camps or programs across the country, or they can opt to save the money for college.

“We have taken steps over the past year to enhance the impact of our math and science education programs and to get even more employees involved,” said Kristin Hilf, who leads the company’s community relations programs. “The company has continued to demonstrate its commitment by providing employees with additional resources and tools that empower their volunteerism on behalf of math and science education initiatives in their local communities.”

Raytheon also has its Stand and Deliver program which matches Raytheon employees with middle school and high school students in need of academic tutoring and mentoring in Lawrence. It also developed a modeling and simulation tool to help policymakers, educators and researchers identify the most successful educational programs.
