24 Tech Companies That Give Back to the Community

For Parametric Technology Corp., charity is best done when you help someone help themselves. With that philosophy in mind, the bulk of PTC’s efforts in giving back are focused on education, says John Stuart, senior vice president of PTC global education.
More than 90 percent of the company’s charitable efforts touch on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education and the ways technology is affecting it. For years, PTC has helped out FIRST Robotics, donating not only funds and volunteer hours, but also engineering and design software to help in the educational aspect of the competition.
“By focusing our support on STEM-based initiatives, we are investing in our youth, equipping them with the technology skills they need in order to be successful in the future,” said Stuart.
But while education is a strong foundation on which PTC builds its giving program, the Needham-based company gives in other areas as well. PTC has also donated time and funds to efforts such as City Year Serve-a-thon, the Pan Mass Challenge and the PTC PALS Mentoring Program, a mentor program in which several PTC staffers went to visit K-5 students at a local school every other week.
