Verizon Communications Inc. sees giving back as not only vital to the people served by the organizations it assists, but as a key to a healthy economy. To that end, the Verizon Foundation has a mission to improve education, literacy, family safety and health care, according to Donna Cupelo, Verizon’s regional president for New England.
“As a large business in the region, we understand how important it is for us to provide support for those in need in our communities. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it is important to the future well-being of our economy,” Cupelo said.
To ensure that future well-being, Verizon takes a two-pronged approach to its giving — education and literacy, and health and safety.
In the education track, the Verizon Foundation works through its program Thinkfinity.org, a free, online portal that provides thousands of educational resources, including K-12 lesson plans and interactive tools for teachers, students and parents.
“I am really excited about Thinkfinity.org,” Cupelo said. “The Verizon Foundation has formed partnerships with the Massachusetts and Rhode Island departments of education to train teachers to use Thinkfinity as an education resource to improve student achievement.”
When in comes to health and safety, Verizon works with organizations focused on the prevention of domestic violence, and keeping children safe on the Internet.
“In addition, we fund programs that use technology to improve the delivery of health-care services,” Cupelo said.
