While the Boston operation of IT consulting giant Accenture Ltd. has certainly shared plenty of its revenue with charities in New England and around the globe, it is equally focused on helping its employees give back individually.

To that end, the company has a number of initiatives, including its Skills Based Volunteering program, in which Accenture employees donate their time and expertise to help non-profits develop the strategies, implement the technologies, and create the operational structure they need to succeed. Accenture helps employees participate in Skills Based Volunteering programs and other programs in a number of ways, said Andre P. Hughes, Accenture’s managing director of U.S. human capital and diversity.

“We invite our employees — and family members and friends — to participate by sending out internal communications via e-mail and office-wide newsletters,” Hughes said.

As a global company, Accenture reaches around the world with its charity efforts. Much of that stems from its Accenture Development Partnerships group, which offers its services at a reduced rate to non-profits working with developing economies. Employees volunteer to participate, as the usual run of such an engagement is three to six months, and can be in places as far-flung as Vietnam and the Balkans.

But Accenture pays close attention to the charities in the city of Boston as well.

“In Boston we have a dozen or more non-profits that we volunteer with annually,” Hughes said, “including the Greater Boston Food Bank, Pine Street Inn and the Museum of Science.”
