Selventa inks multi-year research deal with Janssen

By Lori Valigra

Personalized healthcare company Selventa Inc. of Cambridge said it is has a multi-year research agreement in the area of immunological disease with Janssen Research & Development, LLC.

Selventa said the agreement includes development of disease models to elaborate relevant mechanisms and identify potential new drug candidates. Company spokeswoman Diane Song said she could not reveal the value of the deal.

The privately-held company, founded in 2002, raised $4.96 million in November in a new funding round.

“Building comprehensive disease models and investigating different molecular mechanisms may provide key data-driven foundations for appropriate selection of druggable mechanisms within a disease,” David de Graaf, Selventa’s president and CEO, said in a statement. He said the company had a past research project with an affiliate of Janssen R&D that resulted in a joint publication related to a potential ulcerative colitis therapy.

Selventa uses molecular patient data and computational methods to understand the mechanisms of disease and to personalize treatment. To do so, it identifies subsets of patients based on their disease-driving mechanisms.

The company says its strategy is to enter into strategic relationships with pharmaceutical and life science companies, including clinical research organizations, diagnostic companies, and reference laboratories, for personalized healthcare in autoimmune diseases and oncology.
