Nabeel Hyatt has left the game development world and rejoined the venture capital community, taking a role at Spark Capital as its first venture partner.
Hyatt left his position as general manager at the Boston operations of Zynga Game Network Inc., a role he took when social game giant Zynga – maker of such games as Farmville – bought his startup Conduit Labs Inc., a Cambridge developer of music-related social games, for undisclosed terms in August 2010.
At Spark, Hyatt will focus on consumer Web, social and mobile investments, according to a release from Spark Thursday. Todd Dagres, founder and general partner of Spark, said in a statement in the release, that Hyatt “is an authentic entrepreneur and a great complement to the team.”
Hyatt was previously vice president of strategic alliances at MIT Media Lab spin-off Ambient Devices Inc. in Cambridge. Conduit Labs was started by Hyatt, who began the company as an entrepreneur-in-residence at Westwood’s Prism VentureWorks.
Spark Capital in November led a new $10 million funding round for Fitness Keeper Inc., the maker of fitness tracking app Runkeeper. In January, Spark was associated with an $8.3 million fundraise by Needham’s Linkwell Health Inc., a developer of health and wellness incentive programs for health plan providers intended for individuals with chronic health conditions.
