Physicians Interactive granted drug tech patents

By Michelle Lang

Physicians Interactive, a mobile and online health information software company in Marlborough, won a patent for its electronic drug sampling technology, eSampling, and its medication vouchers for patients, called eCouponing.

The patent covers the company’s drug distribution method, which the compan said is intended to cut down on wasted pharmaceutical samples, prevent doctors’ stockpiling of out-of-date drug samples, and reach drug prescribers in more remote areas geographically.

Founded in 1996, Physicians Interactive, a division of Skyscape.com Inc., also provides interactive education through web, mobile and electronic health records channels. Among its platform offerings are clinical updates, market research, data analytics, e-detailing, e-sampling and e-newsletters.

In January, the company got a financial boost, with $17 million coming to it from Merck Global Health Innovation Fund LLC.
