Nuclea adds $3.4M to funding round

By Michelle Lang

Pittsfield cancer diagnostics firm Nuclea Biotechnologies Inc. continues to attract funding, most recently taking in $3.4 million to boost a Series B round to $9.8 million, the company said in a news release.

Nuclea did not disclose the backers of the round but said it plans to use the funds for clinical trials, new hires, facility upgrades and general operations related to the development of its Fatty Acid Synthase Assays, a biomarker for tumors.

The $9.8 million financing began last August when it raised $3 million. Then in October, Nuclea bumped up the round to $6.4 million, including $4 million in new capital and $2.4 million in outstanding notes exchanged to preferred stock. The latest $3.4 million financing consists of $1.4 million in cash and $2 million in future commitments through the end of March.

Nuclea partnered with Worcester’s Clark University in July to create an official Proteomic and Metabolomic Center on the college’s campus.
