Parexel International Corp. (Nasdaq: PRXL), a Waltham-based contract research organization, said today that it has entered into an agreement with Asan Medical Center of Seoul, Korea, to offer clinical trial services throughout Asia, with a focus on early phase development.
No value for the deal was given. Parexel’s chief operating officer, Dr. Mark Goldberg, said the relationship with Asan lets his company further expand its early phase development business into Asia.
“We look forward to helping our clients take advantage of opportunities to support their Korea-based development and commercialization programs to benefit patients in Korea, throughout Asia, and around the world,” he said in a statement, adding that Asan has strengths in clinical trials, state-of-the art facilities, and a renowned network of hospitals. “We believe our alliance will offer unique advantages to the Korean biopharmaceutical industry,” Goldberg said.
Dr. Seong-wook Park, president and CEO of Asan, said his company wants to enhance the development and use of novel pharmacotherapeutics. Asan’s Clinical Trial Center, which opened in 2002, is a leading center in Korea that was designated as the Regional Clinical Trial Center by the Korean Ministry for Health, Welfare, and Family Affairs in 2006.
