Enterasys leaving Andover, moving back to NH

By Rodney H. Brown

Enterasys Networks is pulling up stakes in Andover, and relocating to a new, larger facility over the border in Salem, N.H.

The maker of telecom and networking hardware and software is expanding from about 150,000 square feet spread out over a number of facilities in Andover, to a single facility in Salem in which it will take 197,000 square feet, according to a release from real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield.

As the release notes, moving to New Hampshire puts Enterasys back in its home state. The company was one of the spinouts of Rochester, N.H.-based Cabletron Systems Inc., and is the only surviving child. Enterasys has had a rocky path since then, being taken private in a $386 million buyout deal in 2006 by a group of private investors led by The Gores Group LLC and Tennenbaum Capital Partners LLC.

The company has since been acquired by Siemans AG and is now a subsidiary of Siemens Enterprise Communications. Just last week, Enterasys announced that the Seaport Hotel & Seaport World Trade Center in Boston had deployed its Enterasys OneFabric Edge solutions to provide Internet access to hotel and conference guests and visitors.

The new headquarters at 9 Northeastern Boulevard will be occupied sometime in the first quarter of 2013, the release noted. Overall, 9 Northern Boulevard is a 659,000-square foot corporate campus.
