Stretchable electronics firm MC10 boosted by $2M funding
By Michelle Lang
Cambridge startup MC10 Inc., a maker of flexible electronics, raised $2 million in a funding round from Aberdare Ventures of San Francisco. As part of the investment, Aberdare managing partner Paul Klingenstein will join the MC10 board of directors.
MC10 is making healthcare-focused flexible electronic products, like monitoring devices for heart, brain, muscles, body temperature and hydration, as well as integrated circuits meant to diagnose and impact tissue function.
The company has raised over $20 million in investments to date. In August, it added $2.5 million to a funding round of $12.5 million that was reported in June. The initial tranche of that round was led by Braemar Energy Ventures, with additional backing by North Bridge Venture Partners, Osage University Partners and Terawatt Ventures. A Series A funding round in July 2010 brought in $6 million to the company as well.
MC10 was co-founded by John Rogers of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and George Whitesides of Harvard University.
