Bridgewater State gets $2M gift from alums
By Mary Moore, Boston Business Journal
Bridgewater State University announced Tuesday that it has received a $2 million gift from two married alumni – one of the largest private gifts ever given to a state university in Massachusetts, according to Bridgewater State.
The gift comes from Bruce R. and Patricia A. Bartlett, both of whom graduated from Bridgewater State in the late 1960s. The funds may be used at the discretion of the university, according to a news release from Bridgewater State. The Bartletts’ gift brings the university’s endowment to approximately $22 million, the release said.
The Bartletts have been major contributors to Bridgewater over the past 25 years, the release said. The university is considering naming its College of Science and Mathematics in honor of the Bartletts, a decision that will be left to the Board of Trustees and should be made in early 2012, according to the release.
Bruce Bartlett founded Bartlett Nuclear Inc. in 1975 in Plymouth to supply radiation protection products to the nuclear power industry and to government agencies. Now named BHI Energy Inc., the company says on its website that it is the “largest U.S. supplier of radiological personnel.”
