Maine GIS software firm Blue Marble Geographics has acquired Global Mapper LLC of Parker Co., for an undisclosed amount, according to a release.
Like Gardiner-based Blue Marble, Global Mapper is a provider of GIS software, and Blue Marble cited Global Mapper’s “cost effective yet powerful solutions” in the announcement of the purchase. Mike Childs, the developer of Global Mapper’s technology, will join the Blue Marble team.
Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation and conversion software, including The Geographic Calculator and GeoCalc SDK, is used in the oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying and technology markets, as well as governmental and university organizations, the company noted in the release.
Founded in 1993, Blue Marble won a $12,500 seed grant from the Maine Technology Institute in 2009 to develop a beta version of their geographic coordinate conversion developer tool; GeoCalc for the Java platform.
