MedTech IGNITE, a medical device-focused business coaching program launched by the Massachusetts Medical Devices Industry Council (MassMedic), won a $50,000 grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC).
The program aims to help medical device entrepreneurs build and develop their companies through free coaching on fundraising, regulatory and reimbursement processes. The grant will support its expansion into the Merrimack Valley, South Coast, Pioneer Valley and Worcester areas, a news release from the MLSC indicated.
MLSC director Susan Windham-Bannister said in a statement that medical devices are Massachusetts’ top exports. “By helping to expand the geographic reach of the MedTech IGNITE program, we are working to ensure that there will be continued growth within this critical sector of the Massachusetts economy,” she said.
MedTech IGNITE launched in 2007 and pulled in a $150,000 grant from the state-funded John Adams Innovation Institute, the economic development arm of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, early in 2008.
The MLSC is a quasi-public agency tasked with implementing the state’s 10-year, $1 billion life sciences initiative.
