Modo Labs, a developer of an open source mobile platform, has pulled in $4 million in funding from Storm Ventures and New Magellan Ventures. The Cambridge startup said in a news release that it plans to use the backing to support its mobile product offerings built on its Kurogo open source platform.
“With the new venture funding, we can now accelerate our innovations in both our core Kurogo Framework and in integrated solutions for universities and enterprise,” Andrew Yu, CEO of Modo Labs, said in a statement.
Kurogo, which targets universities looking to build mobile websites and native applications, counts about 150 schools and enterprises using its platform. In New England, Boston College, Brown University, Harvard University, Middlebury College and the University of Vermont are among the universities employing Kurogo.
Modo Labs was voted a Mass High Tech “Five you should follow” company in May. In June, it secured the “Best User Experience” award at the Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange (MITX) Innovation Awards.
