Proteostasis names Genzyme vet Enyedy as CEO

By Michelle Lang

Mark Enyedy, a former Genzyme Corp. executive, is taking the reins of Proteostasis Therapeutics Inc., a Cambridge biotech developing treatments for neurodegenerative and genetic disorders.

Prior to being named CEO and a board member of Proteostasis, Enyedy was president of the Transplant, Oncology and Multiple Sclerosis divisions at Genzyme. He held earlier posts at the Genzyme, working as vice president of business development and director of business development for the company’s Oncology division. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University and a law degree from Harvard Law School, beginning his career as an associate at Palmer & Dodge.

Proteostasis is a developer of a drug discovery platform aimed at developing therapeutics based on small molecules for Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Alzheimer’s disease. The company was founded in 2008 by Andrew Dillin of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Jeffrey Kelley of the Scripps Research Institute in California and Richard Morimoto of Northwestern University’s Rice Institute for Biomedical Research.

As of June, the company planned an $81.8 million Series A round, of which it had taken in $70.6 million since the round opened in 2008.

In April, Proteostasis acquired a pair of licenses pertaining to protein clearance technology from Harvard University for undisclosed terms.
