TwinStrata stores up $8M in Series B funding

By Michelle Lang

Natick cloud storage and backup company TwinStrata Inc. has completed an $8 million Series B funding round, led by Avalon Ventures of Cambridge.

The company makes CloudArray, its software and hardware storage solutions intended to serve as an alternative to off-site storage and provide features such as deduplication, bandwidth optimization, dynamic caching, in-flight/at-rest data encryption and reportedly easy access to restored data. Its partners include AT&T, EMC Corp. and Amazon Web Services.

The new funding will support sales and marketing of CloudArray, TwinStrata said in a news release.

TwinStrata took in a $5.7 million funding of a planned $8.7 million financing round in August,  according to federal documents.

The company was co-founded by Nicos Vekiarides, former general manager of the storage virtualization business at Hewlett-Packard Co., and John Bates, current CTO of TwinStrata and also an HP alumnus.
