Mobile social portal MocoSpace has purchased Cambridge location-based social games platform maker Geocade for an undisclosed amount, according to a release.
The location capabilities of Geocade’s platform will be integrated into Boston-based MocoSpace’s newest game, Rise to Fame. Geocade founder and CEO Jim Caralis will become MocoSpace’s new vice president of the company’s HTML5 game platform.
MocoSpace is a mobile social network publisher, operated by Boston-based JNJ Mobile Inc. The venture-backed, profitable company said in February that it was planning to offer $1 million for developers to build mobile games. In August, MocoSpace added $1 million into the fund, bringing it to $2 million.
According to the release, Geocade has powered popular iOS and Android titles like Paper Toss, Rag Doll Blaster, Enigmo, Falling Balls and Space Ninja.
In September of 2010, MocoSpace raised $3.5 million from SoftBank Capital, a Newton venture capital firm, to expand its social games offering. Also backing the company is General Catalyst.
