Late last night, Harvard University’s website was hacked by what apparently was a group supporting the regime of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. But can we really ignore the possibility that it was New England Patriots fans upset with the loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday?
After all, Bill quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick played college football at Harvard. Perhaps some more rabid than usual Pats fan made the connection and decided to show his displeasure with the ivyest of Ivy League schools by defacing its website. Maybe the Syrian connection was just a ruse to transfer suspicion away from his hatred of the Bills — and vicariously of Fitzpatrick’s alma mater Harvard. Seriously, if you were going to pick a fall guy for your Fitzgerald-hating hack of Harvard, who better than Syria, a country that by most accounts is in the process of slaughtering almost anybody that evens thinks about launching an Arab Spring-style movement there.
Of course, the whole “23 million man bomb” threat might have been over the top for our alleged Bills-bashing hacker. Come to think of it, that statement means it couldn’t have been a Pats fan, for whom a “bomb” is either a dead-on deep pass by Tom Brady, or one of the dozens of shots consumed before a game while tailgating.
