New Hampshire telepresence robotics firm VGo Communications Inc. has tapped local tech industry veteran Peter Vicars as its new president and CEO, filling the space left by the departure of previous CEO Brad Kayton in February.
Vicars comes from his most recent gig leading Heavy Lift Systems, a clean-tech business developing a tethered aerostat crane to lift wind turbines into place. His background also includes stints as CEO for seven companies, including Chantry Networks, Cayman Systems and Tekelec. In 2010, Vicars was one of the members of the second New England Clean Energy Council Fellowship Program.
Kayton left VGo in February, and is now president and CEO of smart grid energy services company Zome Energy Networks Inc., according to his profile on Linkedin. VGo was founded as North End Technologies in 2007 by ex-iRobot executives Tom Ryden and Grinnell More, and Timothy Root, a former CTO at Andover-based videoconferencing pioneer PictureTel.
In May, VGo took in $4.2 million in a planned $6 million new equity funding round, bringing the total raised by the company to a little over $10 million since it was founded. The Nashua company took in $3.3 million in its previous round, filed in February of 2010. At that time, the only institutional investor in the company was Castile Ventures, with the rest of the backers made up of angels and company executives, officials said.
