Highland Capital Partners said Thursday it will expand its presence in Europe with the addition of a new principal at the firm’s London office.

The Lexington-based venture capital firm said the principal is Sam Brooks, who formerly worked for Insight Venture Partners of New York.

Brooks will work on deals across Europe, Highland said, alongside general partner Fergal Mullen, general partner Laurence Garrett and principal Irene Goldenberg. Highland also has a European office in Geneva, Switzerland.

At Insight, Brooks had been involved in making investments into companies including PhotoBox, OverDrive and Primavera Systems, which was acquired by Oracle.
