Placester pumps up first funding to $826K

By Rodney Brown

TechStars accelerator company Placester Inc. has filed a document with the SEC showing that its planned financing announced in June has soared to more than double the amount, from $325,000 to $826,000.

The filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission shows that Placester is looking to raise a total of $996,221 in the round, up from the previously announced $600,000 top end. None of the 15 backers in the financing are identified by name in the filing, and executive and co-founder Matthew Barba is the only name listed as a related person.

In the announcement from TechStars about the previous amount of the Placester funding, the backers were described as angel investors.

Placester is an online service where renters can find apartments and connect with real estate agents with available properties. The Cambridge company was founded in 2008 as RentMapp Inc. In July, Placester was recognized as one of the Mass High Tech “Startup Watch: Five you should follow” companies.
