

TwinStrata Inc., a Natick cloud storage and backup company, has taken in $5.7 million of a planned $8.7 million funding round, documents filed with the SEC show.
The new funding brings the total raised by TwinStrata to approximately $16 million over five rounds since it was founded in 2007. The the filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, TwinStrata lists 27 backers in the new round, although they are not identified.
A previous investor in the company is Avalon Ventures, which participated in TwinStrata’s $1 million fundraise in September of 2010, which the company later bumped up to $1.2 million. Braden Bohrmann and Richard Levandov of Avalon are the only venture capitalists listed as related persons in the SEC filing.
In February, TwinStrata raised $750,000 of a planned $1.95 million debt and equity options round.
TwinStrataoffers its CloudArray cloud storage and backup products, based on the iSCSI format. The company lists as partners AT&T, EMC Corp. and Amazon Web Services. TwinStrata co-founder Nicos Vekiarides was previously general manager of the storage virtualization business at Hewlett-Packard Co. John Bates, CTO and the other TwinStrata co-founder, is also an HP alumnus.
