Twitter starts buzz with reported $400M VC round

By Rodney Brown

Twitter has confirmed that it has raised “a significant round of funding led by the venture firm DST Global,” a round that observers say is at least $400 million, with some reporting it as high as $800 million.

TechCrunch blogger Jason Kincaid posted a quote from DST chief Yuri Milner, with the Russian billionaire saying, “Twitter is one of the few companies that has truly changed the world. Twitter’s astonishing growth is a testament to how important it is becoming to more people every day, and why we couldn’t pass up the chance to be a bigger part of its future.”

On the blog AllThingsD, Kara Swisher reported “DST will be the biggest player in a total round of $800 million for the San Francisco microblogging site, with $400 million going to cash out employees and other shareholders. The new funding will value Twitter at $8 billion.”
