Akamai Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM) said Tuesday that it has expanded into five countries in Central and Eastern Europe amid growing demand for its Internet data delivery services.
The Cambridge-based company said it will expand the services into the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. Akamai said it will open an office in Krakow, Poland, and plans to add more offices and staffing over the next six to 12 months in the region.
In the announcement, Akamai cited growing Internet adoption in Central and Eastern Europe, along with an increase in the number of online news, sporting and entertainment events – trends that are fueling a need for Akamai’s content and web application delivery, the company said.
Akamai said the expansion will be led by Bruno Haubertin, who has previously worked on operation expansions in emerging markets for Compaq Computer, Digital Equipment and Sun Microsystems.
