Smith & Nephew acquires patient positioning company

By James M. Connolly

Medical device company Smith & Nephew today announced the acquisition of Tenet Medical Engineering Inc., a Calgary, Alberta-based company that sells surgical patient positioning equipment.

Tenet’s products are used for patient positioning in arthoscopic surgery. According to a press release from Smith & Nephew, Tenet’s products complement Smith & Nephew’s existing arthroscopy portfolio, and they will be sold through Smith & Nephew Endoscopy Division, based in Andover. Smith & Nephew Endoscopy previously had a distribution agreement for the Tenet products.

Financial terms of the acquisition weren’t released.

Earlier today Smith & Nephew announced that it won an $85 million jury award in a patent infringement case in Oregon.
