PerkinElmer buys X-ray tech firm Dexela

By Julie M. Donnelly, Boston Business Journal

PerkinElmer Inc., (NYSE: PKI), a scientific instruments and services company, has acquired London-based Dexela Limited, a provider of X-ray detection technologies and services. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Waltham-based PerkinElmer said the acquisition would expand PerkinElmer’s medical imaging portfolio in areas including surgery, dental CT imaging, cardiology and mammography. Dexela’s products include hardware and software offerings for low-dose X-ray imaging.

“Dexela has been a pioneer in the development of CMOS X-ray detection solutions and has achieved award-winning recognition in the imaging market for its design strengths and ease of manufacturability – which are major advantages for OEM customers,” said PerkinElmer President of Medical Imaging, Brian Giambattista, in a statement.

This is the latest in a rash of acquisitions for PerkinElmer. In May, the company announced it bought Seattle-based lab cloud computing software firm Geospiza Inc. and Ontario, Canada-based health IT company Labtronics Inc. In March, PerkinElmer announced it bought Durham, N.C.-based Artuslabs and Cambridge-based life sciences software firm CambridgeSoft. In February, the company announced it had acquired Germany-based Chemagen Biopolymer-Technologie AG.
