EnerNOC Inc. (Nasdaq: ENOC) said demand response services provided on Tuesday for an East Coast electrical grid system represented its largest-ever dispatch.
The Boston-based energy management firm said grid operator PJM Interconnection requested a reduction of 1,200 megawatts of electricity from New Jersey to Virginia. EnerNOC said the dispatch involved 1,600 sites in total.
The demand response service involves paying energy users to lower their electricity during peak demand periods, avoiding reliability problems for the electric grid.
EnerNOC said it was able to handle the dispatch while also responding to demand response needs for National Grid in the United Kingdom, the Ontario Power Authority in Canada and the Tennessee Valley Authority in the U.S. In all, the firm said it triggered demand response procedures at more than 2,600 commercial and industrial sites from May 30-31.
In May, EnerNOC said it had landed Electricity North West Limited as a new customer, the company’s third customer in the United Kingdom.
