Boston- and New York-based BuyWithMe continued its shopping spree for smaller, regional group-buying sites based on its competitors’ home turf, Wednesday, buying up San Francisco group buying site Groop Swoop for undisclosed terms. It’s the third such deal the two-year-old company, a competitor to Groupon and LivingSocial, has made since March, in a push to grow its geographic footprint.
Groop Swoop is the second San Francisco Bay Area site acquired in the buying spree; In March, BuyWithMe bought San Carlos, Calif.-based LocalTwist — a LivingSocial neighbor — for undisclosed terms. At the beginning of May, BuyWithMe snapped up a site in Groupon’s hometown — Chicago competitor DealADayOnline.
Founded in 2009, BuyWithMe has so far raised at least $21.5 million from investors including Bain Capital Ventures of Boston and Matrix Partners of Waltham.
BuyWithMe CEO Jim Crowley, who joined the firm in February, said in a statement that the Groop Swoop deal enables the company “to expand our merchant offerings in the San Francisco area.”
