Watertown nanotechnology company QD Vision Inc. has raised $22 million in a funding round to expand its quantum dot technology.
The financing was backed by new investors Passport Capital, Novus Energy Partners and Capricorn Investment Group LLC, as well as return backers North Bridge Venture Partners, Highland Capital Partners, In-Q-Tel and DTE Energy Ventures.
QD Vision announced last week that its full-color quantum dot LED (QLED) displays are “closer to reality.” Its red, blue and green QLED are on par or better than the 1953 NSTC color standard without color filters or effects. And the company said its QLEDS have up to 40 percent better luminous efficiency over organic LED technology.
In December, QD Vision reported landing a $10 million financing round from North Bridge Venture Partners, Highland Capital Partners and the CIA’s investment arm In-Q-Tel. About one month later, the company added $3 million from DTE Energy Ventures to help expand the market for its technology for LED lighting and displays products.
