Crimson Hexagon rounds up $5M financing

By Galen Moore

Crimson Hexagon has raised a $5 million Series B round of private capital from Charles F. Dolan, founder and chairman of Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC), the Cambridge, social media analytics software company announced today.

The round comes just three months after Crimson Hexagon announced it had hired Patricia Gottesman, a former Cablevision executive, as its CEO. In a statement, Gottesman said Dolan’s investment “recognizes Crimson Hexagon’s readiness for expansion and rapid growth.”

Founded in 2007 based on Harvard University research, Crimson Hexagon offers semantic analysis of what people are saying on social media services. Previously, the company had raised $2 million in a 2010 Series A round with angel groups Beacon Angels, Golden Seeds, New York Angels and CT Angel Investor Forum, and venture capital firm Zelkova Ventures of New York City. The investor put in $2 million in 2010.
