Acme Packet Inc. (Nasdaq:APKT) announced Thursday that it plans to hire 117 new employees in Massachusetts through the rest of the year while substantially expanding its headquarters facility, as the company continues its rapid growth.
The Bedford-based telecommunications equipment maker said 70 new employees have already joined the Massachusetts staff so far this year, bringing the company’s headcount in the state to 443. Acme Packet’s research and development, along with the final test and assembly steps in its manufacturing process, take place at the company’s Bedford facility.
Acme Packet also disclosed that it plans to add approximately 110,000 square feet adjacent to its existing 151,000-square-foot building in Bedford, in an announcement made during an event with Gov. Deval Patrick Thursday.
The company recently said first-quarter revenue was up 45 percent from the same period a year earlier, to $74 million, and announced that it was increasing its revenue outlook for 2011.
Acme Packet provides signaling controls for the delivery of voice, video and multimedia sessions and data services across IP network borders. The company is capitalizing on trends that include the increased deployment of IP networks in place of traditional telephone networks, while IP is also becoming a critical element for enabling mobile technologies.
