PerkinElmer buys Labtronics

By Galen Moore

PerkinElmer Inc. (NYSE: PKI) continued its recent buying spree today with the announcement that it has acquired Ontario, Canada-based Labtronics Inc., a health IT company that makes electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) – software designed to replace paper lab notebooks.

In a statement, Waltha, Mass.-based PerkinElmer said the buy will allow it to sell its existing ELN offerings into “laboratories following strict routine procedures, such as regulated and non-regulated QA/QC, late stage product or method development laboratories, and environmental and food testing labs.” Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In March, PerkinElmer announced its acquisition of two companies – health IT database company CambridgeSoft and research software company ArtusLabs – for a combined $220 million.

In February, PerkinElmer announced it had bought German materials maker Biopolymer-Techologie AG for undisclosed terms.
