PerkinElmer Inc., the life sciences and environmental tech giant in Waltham, has acquired Geospiza Inc., a Seattle cloud computing developer of software to manage genetic analysis and lab work.
PerkinElmer (NYSE: PKI) said in a news release that it bought the company, for undisclosed terms, to add to its DNA sequencing and analysis services. Geospiza’s offerings would help scientists access genomic analysis and data through cloud computing, PerkinElmer noted.
With its clients in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, Geospiza brings its product offerings to the merger, including GeneSifter Analysis Edition, its cloud-based sequencing data analysis product, and GeneSifter Lab Edition, its laboratory software workflow platform.
PerkinElmer has been on a life sciences software buying spree. In March, the company announced plans to acquire CambridgeSoft Corp., a productivity-oriented software product for the pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical and scientific research sectors. It also completed a buyout of Durham, N.C.-based ArtusLabs Inc., an R&D productivity platform developer for the same industries. PerkinElmer paid $220 million total for those two companies.
