A123 appoints Ford vet Prystash as CFO

By Kyle Alspach

A123 Systems Inc. (Nasdaq:AONE) announced Wednesday that it has named a veteran of Ford Motor Co. as its new chief financial officer.

The Waltham-based lithium ion battery maker said David Prystash is expected to join the company as of May 12. His resume includes serving as CFO for NewPage Corp., a major coated paper manufacturer, along with 20 years at Ford, where he held a “variety of senior financial and operational leadership positions,” A123 said.

The appointment comes as A123 continues to work toward establishing itself as a battery supplier for the electric vehicle industry. The list of customers for A123’s automotive batteries includes BAE, Eaton Corp., Fisker Automotive, Navistar and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp.

The company’s previous CFO, Michael Rubino, left the company in January for Boston-based cleantech firm Digital Lumens Inc.

In April, A123 announced it had reached a supply and distribution agreement to provide lithium-ion battery technology for high-performance motorsports.
