Acetylon Pharmaceuticals Inc., a Boston biotech working on small molecule drugs to treat cancer and other diseases, today announced two new members of its scientific advisory board.
The company added Wayne William Hancock, who is professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania and chief of the Division of Transplantation Immunology at that hospital. In addition, the company added Tso-Pang Yao, who is an associate professor of pharmacology and cancer biology at Duke University Medical Center, as well as associate professor of radiation oncology at Duke University Medical Center.
Acetylon is expanding the advisory board at a time when it is advancing its lead drug candidate, ACY-1215, into clinical trials. That drug is a selective inhibitor of histone deacetylase-6 (HDAC6), and the first indications are targeted for multiple myeloma and inflammatory disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Hancock’s research is in the fields of transplant immunobiology, inflammation and mechanisms of disease. Yao’s research focuses on identifying and characterizing novel regulatory functions of protein acetylation in cell signaling and human disease, with an emphasis on the roles of Class II HDACs.
In February, Acetylon raised $12.4 million of a planned $30 million Series B financing round.
