Raytheon Co. (NYSE:RTN) announced Tuesday it has won a $58.3 million contract for Patriot guidance missiles, with work to be performed by Tewksbury-based Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems.
The Waltham-based defense giant said it was awarded the contract by U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command of Redstone Arsenal, Ala.
The contract is for Patriot Guidance Enhanced Missile-Tactical, or GEM-T, missiles. The work will upgrade 131 Patriot Advanced Capability-2 missiles to the GEM-T configuration, and it’s a follow-on contract for a program initiated in 2000.
Sanjay Kapoor, vice president for Patriot Programs at Raytheon (IDS), said in a statement that the upgrades “speak to the critical role Patriot plays in our 12 partner nations’ air and missile defense capabilities.”
GEM-T upgrades are ongoing under existing contracts with the U.S. and other Patriot partner nations, and are performed at Raytheon’s Integrated Air Defense Center in Andover, Raytheon said.
Raytheon reported in March 2010 that it had landed $11.9 million from the U.S. Army for Patriot missile components.
