In an attempt to help schools go green, Ashland company IdeaPaint Inc. will be giving away up to 1 million square feet of its paint-on whiteboard paint to schools during this week in recognition of Earth Day.
According to a press release, for every 50 square feet someone buys from the IdeaPaint.com website this week, the company will match that by donating 50 square feet of IdeaPaint to the school of the customer’s choice. To take advantage of the deal, customers need to use the promotional code “EARTHDAY” when making the purchase, after which someone from IdeaPaint will contact them for the information about the school they wish to get the donation.
Privately held IdeaPaint last raised funds in July of 2009, when it brought in $1.87 million. Backers in IdeaPaint’s previous rounds include angel investor Todd Krasnow, a member of the original management team at Staples Inc., as well as Breakaway Ventures. Prior to that fundraise, IdeaPaint brought in $3.3 million in December, 2009, and had an initial round in 2008 worth $5 million.
Founded in 2006 out of Babson College’s entrepreneur program by John Goscha, IdeaPaint was originally based in Cambridge. The company has partnered with seven global distributors and says its paint can now be found in more than 100 countries.
