Internet video startup Zixi attracts $4M funding

By Galen Moore

A new player in Boston’s Internet video delivery cluster is expected to announce today it has raised $4 million in financing from Hub venture capital investors, and media and telecommunications industry angels.

Zixi LLC is taking on over-the-top (OTT) TV products like Google TV and Apple TV. The Waltham startup offers software built into set-top boxes and telecom equipment, designed to facilitate delivery of high-definition video over the Internet. Last September, Zixi announced a partnership with Netgear on a set-top box designed to speed video delivery for consumers.

A company spokesman said investors include Schooner Capital of Boston, former Scientific Atlanta chairman and CEO Sidney Topol, and Maurice “Reese” Schonfeld, the co-founder and first chief executive of CNN.
