A pair of Maine companies, one developing floating wind turbines and one enabling convenience store marketing campaigns, have received development awards from the Maine Technology Institute.
WindFloat Maine LLC of Camden, a subsidiary of Principle Power Inc., received $500,000 for Windfloat, a wind turbine platform. The two companies are working on a deepwater floating wind turbine platform. PPI is a member of the DeepCwind consortium at the University of Maine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center. WindFloat Maine also brought in a $500,000 matching investment.
Abierto Networks LLC of Eliot received $398,826 for its Digital Marketing Platform. Abierto (named for the word “open” in Spanish) is an integrator and technology solutions provider to the convenience store industry. Its solutions are a combination of hardware, software and services designed to help convenience store retailers target consumers. The MTI award is being matched by a $649,064 investment.
In November, MTI awarded $139,000 in seed grants to a dozen entrepreneurs.
