Connecticut backs green wedding guide with $150,000

By James M. Connolly

Connecticut Innovations today said that it has provided $150,000 in financing to The Green Life Guides LLC of New Haven, which operates an e-commerce website for engaged couples who want to hold environmentally-friendly weddings.

The website for Green Bride Guide lists vendors of green products and services such as wedding gifts, honeymoons and decor.

Connecticut Innovations provided the funding under its Pre-Seed Fund. Matching funds were provided by Advantage Capital Connecticut I.

Green Life Guides founder and CEO Kate Harrison said in a press release that there are 2.5 million weddings in the U.S. each year, and that her site gets 20,000 unique visits per month. She said that a typical wedding produces 63 tons of carbon dioxide and up to 600 pounds of garbage.

Harrison founded the company in 2007 while earning a graduate degree at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies.
