Stealthy fuel cell startup Encite raises $650K

By Kyle Alspach

Burlington-based Encite LLC has raised $650,000 out of a planned $1 million equity round, according to a regulatory filing.

The company has no website, and a man who answered the phone Tuesday declined to discuss what the company is working on.

A patent application from 2008 shows the company had been working on a method of forming a fuel cell on a substrate, and then forming electronics on the substrate. The electronics would be electrically coupled to the fuel cell and configured to control generation of power by the fuel cell through electrical communication, according to the application.

The inventor on the patent application is listed as Stephen A. Marsh, who is also listed as executive officer and director on the financing filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

A previous filing with the SEC, in 2008, shows that Encite had raised $235,000 out of a planned equity round of $500,000.
