Solar energy distribution and project planning provider groSolar today said that it has sold its residential division to SolarCity to enable groSolar to focus on expansion of its distribution and large-scale commercial businesses.
Based in White River Junction, Vt., groSolar said it wants to concentrate on the distribution and commercial businesses because they are the company’s fastest growing groups. The company said the commercial division has recently received several contracts for large-scale commercial projects for 2011, and its largest commercial installation to date, a Clean Harbors landfill in New Jersey, is ready to be commssioned. That is a 1.5 megawatt installation sitting on top of a capped landfill.
SolarCity, based in San Mateo, Calif., provides services such as solar power system design, financing, installation, monitoring and related services. It will take over support and maintenance services for groSolar’s existing residential customers.
GroSolar, founded in 1998, moved to grow its residential business in 2009 with the acquisition of the residential solar division of California-based Borrego Solar Systems Inc.
