Skyworks Solutions Inc. (Nasdaq:SWKS) and Ember Corp. are teaming up on next-generation wireless products for “smart” buildings, the companies announced Tuesday.
The products will combine Skyworks’ front-end modules with Ember’s chips and will target the energy management, home area network and industrial automation markets, according to the announcement.
Woburn-based Skyworks has a broad portfolio of products but is best known for producing wireless semiconductor chips for smartphones, including several power amplifier chips for Apple Inc.’s iPhone 4.
Boston-based Ember, meanwhile, produces ZigBee chips, software and tools for applications including smart meters and “smart homes.” ZigBee is a wireless network standard used for smart home applications such as lighting control, door and window sensors, and appliance and temperature controllers.
Ember said revenue in 2010 grew by nearly 300 percent, fueled by worldwide smart meter deployments.
