MindSHIFT acquires IT firm ORBIT Systems

By Kyle Alspach

Managed IT service firm mindSHIFT Technologies Inc. said it has made its second acquisition of 2011 with the purchase of Minnesota-based ORBIT Systems.

The Waltham-based company said that ORBIT, a managed IT services company located in Minneapolis-St. Paul and founded in 1999, has a closely aligned product portfolio with mindSHIFT, including a focus on cloud services offerings. The company called the acquisition “instrumental” in expanding mindSHIFT’s presence in North America and cementing the company’s position in the managed services provider industry.

Financial terms for the acquisition were not disclosed. To date, mindSHIFT has focused on providing managed IT services, with a focus on cloud computing, to legal firms, financial services companies, nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. The company has annual revenue of more than $100 million, according to a press release.

In January, mindSHIFT said it had acquired Morrisville, N.C.-based Alpheon Corp. for an undisclosed price.
