GT Solar International Inc. (Nasdaq: SOLR) said Thursday that it has received a $33.3 million order for sapphire crystallization systems, in the company’s first order for LED equipment from South Korea.
The Merrimack, N.H.-based company, best known as a maker of manufacturing equipment for solar power technology, said the order came from South Korea-based OCI Company.
OCI will use the furnaces to produce high quality sapphire material, the fundamental substrate material used to manufacture a wide range of LED products such as high brightness LEDs, GT Solar said.
GT Solar received its first orders for LED equipment, from two Chinese firms, in December, which totaled $84 million.
